Small Town Living
56My husband and I just recently moved to the town I grew up in. Little did I imagine just a few short years ago, that such a move would make me so happy. I went to school for a couple years in France and there decided I wanted to live in the city. Well I got that wish when we got married. And it didn't turn out to be quite as fantastic as I'd imagined it would be. ( I imagine living as we did in a Midwestern City is different than NYC or a coastal city!) Not many of our friends lived very close by, let alone within walking distance. You can only shop so much in a week, only stay at home so much which brings me to why we were so happy to move. There is more for us to do in a small town than there is to do in the city!Things that are more Real that is and don't cost money at every turn.
Now I walk every day. The huge difference to me is having somewhere to walk to! My parent's, our charming downtown, the park, any of my many friends places, church etc.Where we lived before, I had a hard time convincing myself to actually get the stroller out, buckle the baby in and take the walk because there wasn't really anywhere great to go within walking distance. How that has changed...Plus, now I get more exercise and save gas!
Now I have a garden. Our living sitution before did not allow for a garden. We didn't have the option of growing our own vegetables which are really one of the best things about summer. We did go to the Farmers Market which was fantastic and which I will miss doing. On the other hand maybe I'll have vegetables enough in excess to sell at our local Farmers Market!
Now we actually have friends and family that we actually do things with on a regular basis! It's been a beautiful summer so far ( tornado scares aside) and we've already hosted a few parties, gone to a few and are planning a few. What better way to spend the evening than with friends and family, playing lawn games, mixing great drinks and having a good time?
Now, I have built in babysitters! This may be the best of all! My family lives near by and Grandma is always happy to watch her little grandson!
What is kind of funny to me is that although I worked from home before and don't anymore, I am so much busier now. I guess it all ties in with having friends so much closer and being able to be more involved. I think I am going to love this!

This sounds good! . . . and also much like my life, though I don't have as much family nearby as I would like.
I think life changed a lot when it became common for people to move away from 'home'.
